On Sunday September 29th, five Selkirk FD members participated in the annual Tunnel To Towers Run, in NYC, to support the FF Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation. On 9/11, FF Siller was heading home, after completing his shift with the FDNY, when he heard about the first plane hitting the WTC. He immediately started heading back to help out. When he reached the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, it was already closed to traffic. So with 60lbs of gear, he walked thru the tunnel, back towards NYC. to help at the WTC site. FF Siller tragically lost his life that day, along with 342 other brother and sister FF’s.
On September 11th, Selkirk FD hosted a Memorial Service to remember the 343 firefighters who died on 9/11 at the World Trade Center site. All 343 names were read aloud, with members from the public also participating. Brother and Sister Firefighters from the Elsmere FD, Delmar FD, and Slingerlands FD also participated.
